At the Moment

I’m in Minneapolis at the moment. I have a basement studio here where I can work large if I choose to. I wonder about the value of working large and the power that some small works have. I know it is an old if not ancient tendency for the artist (particularly the male painter) to think that size matters… Perhaps it does. Most of my paintings are not very large but they can come across in photos as large images. One thing for sure is that you do work differently when you are painting large scale. I have the problem of controlling drips with paint brushes loaded with paint and attacking a big vertical surface. I will experiment with bringing the splash and splatter under control while I am out here. At least I hope to. More of my work can be found here.

Tea, Out of Doors

I have finally gotten this painting finished or very close to finished. There are always details that slip past you . I am however pleased with what I have done to this point. Any changes will be minimal if at all.

This painting continues my interest in ceramic containers as symbolic of both body and spirit. The situation and character is fantasy. Here we have a figure standing in a yard in front of a tree and a house. There is no story, just a moment, when someone walks out of doors with cup in hand.

More of my work can be found here.

Opps!

I am not keeping up with my postings. I have not be seriously painting for several days and have little to show or talk about. I have shot a few photos of my best friend’s hands. I might use some of them as models for drawings or paintings in the future. Next to the face, hands are the most expressive part of the body, and it takes a lot of work to draw and paint them correctly.

Where Am I?
